Vanden Foreign Language Teachers Philosophy:

• Communication is at the core of foreign language study.
• Learning a foreign language increases student's understanding of other cultures and the world.

• It enhances students' performance across the curriculum.

Communication is at the heart of the human experience. Students, therefore, learn languages for a variety of reasons. Whatever the reasons are, it is important to emphasize that to be able to communicate in a second language helps students develop an insight into the nature of language and culture. To know a second language opens the eyes of students to other ways of seeing the world. Moreover, it enables them to participate socially and professionally in multilingual communitites in their own country and abroad.

The goal would be for all students to become and remain proficient in their native language and one or more foreign languages, whether modern or classical. Proficiency in a second language requires patience, dedication, and practice, and a sound instructional program. It is recommended that the student begin his or her study as early as possible. In order to fulfill this ideal, the Vanden foreign language teachers are committed to implementing a communicative approach curriculum to make the acquisition of a second or third language possible.
