Travis Unified School District Vision
Travis Unified School District is a united community of adults and youth

Travis Unified School District serves a culturally and ethnically diverse
community, which is growing and changing demographically. Approximately
5,300 students are currently enrolled in the district. We have 5 elementary
schools (K-6), a middle school (6-8), a high school (9-12), a continuation
school, a community day, and an Adult Education program. Six out of the
8 schools are California Distinguished schools. (adopted 1997)
Travis Unified School District Goals & Highlights
for 2000-2001
- Maintain instructional excellence to increase achievement
for every student
- Increased options in career education and development.
- Created English immersion class and support for
English language learners.
- Supplemented instruction through Intersession and
elementary extended day sessions.
- Aligned the History Social-Science curriculum with
state standards and adopted history/social science curriculum.
- Implemented multiple measure assessments for English
and math, and pilot tested standards based report cards.
- Created specialized programs.
- Completed a self review as required by the state
of every school and departmental program.
- Goal #2: Enhance, Create and Modernize facilities
to support life long learning
- Developed a master plan for the creation of a
complex from Dobe to Markley and Deronde encompassing three schools
and the administrative
offices benefiting students and community.
- Developed partnerships for shared usage with the
cities, colleges and the base.
- Completed energy efficient upgrades at older schools
and installed air conditioning at Vanden, Golden West, and Center
schools.
- Goal #3: Enhance communication
- Participated in community and school meetings from
the Chambers of Commerce to the booster clubs.
- Continually posted our education partners on school
issues.
- Represented Travis Unified School District on county
and state educational committees.
- Held staff and parent meetings throughout the community.
- Responded to community concerns and questions through
letters, email, and phone.
- Coordinated budget and facilities community workshops.
- Goal #4: Ensure a safe and productive environment
- Completed installation of a districtwide area network
connecting every school to the Internet.
- Redesigned the safety committee to address appropriate
responses to incidents and physical safety.
- Improved the process for referral of students with
severe problems.
- Implemented a new attendance system.
- Goal #5: Continue fiscal responsibility and collaborative
budgeting
- Implemented budget development focused on student
achievement, checks and balances for purchasing and budget management.
- Secured grants and donations totaling more than
$300,000.
- Planned for personnel expansion and retirements,
eliminating duplication and overages.
- Used a team approach to allocate resources.
