Welcome to the Travis
|
|
A message from Kate Wren Gavlak. Superintendent Welcome to the Newcomer's corner of our Travis Unified School District website. This "corner" of our site has been created for use by people who are planning to come to the Travis area in the near future and who want to know what we have to offer. It includes links out to other parts of our website, to our schools, and to community agencies that may help in your resettling to our area. Here, you will find all of the information necessary to enroll your sons/daughters in our district, to know what the standards for each grade level are, to determine what other activities might be available for your children and to begin to make contact with our various agencies that will support your family in Travis. Since the Travis School District covers Travis Air Force Base and parts of the cities of Vacaville and Fairfield as well as part of Solano County, we have tried to include links to agencies in all of these areas. For our military families, we are especially aware of the stress that can occur when you and your family move often and must re-acclimate to a new community each time. This "corner" is designed to make this transition easier and faster. We have been told that many of you would prefer to have your sons/daughters enrolled in an on-base school for their elementary education and kept close for secondary instruction as well. (Our high school and middle schools are directly across the street from the residential section of the Base.) For those of you who wish to have this opportunity, even though you may be living off base and/or out of our district boundaries, there is the option of applying for an "Inter-district agreement". Please refer to our section on how to apply for this agreement in the newcomer's corner. It is important that you know that Travis Unified School District places a priority upon accepting military dependents into their schools. You might want to visit www.afcrossroads.com, the official website for Air Force families and the Air Force community. There is a wealth of information at this site, including a section on family separation and readiness which includes a Pre-deployment Guide: A Tool for Coping and other very valuable information. Finally, this "corner" is under continual "construction" and revisions as we receive feedback about how to best meet your needs. Please do not hesitate to contact me at kwrengavlak@travisusd.k12.ca.us, or our technology director, Rick Marx at rmarx@traisusd.k12.ca.us, questions or requests for more information. We are here to serve your needs! Sincerely, Kate Wren Gavlak |
