The Lego Project was started at Foxboro Elementary School in May of
2003. The integrated focus of this project was on the development of
skills in geometry, mathematical variables, logical thinking, sequencing,
and Language Arts. For this pilot program, teachers selected students they felt
could benefit from additional experience in geometry, measurement, and
algebra in an after school enrichment program. The result was an exciting
discovery of mathematics and technology as children learned how to program
the computer to draw geometric shapes, write procedures and commands,
understand, program and manipulate numerous variables and
create a final presentation. As part of their project, each student
programmed a page designed for you to choose the variables and create your own design.
We presented our projects at a Parent Night with parents taking over the
computers as they explored these variables on the "You Try It"
page. Talk about impressed parents and proud children!
