As part of the 5th grade Social Studies standards,
students are generally required to do a state report. While much work
goes into the research and preparation of these reports, students seldom
keep them at the end of the school year! We have found an alternative
to this dilemma. Students created multimedia reports about their
chosen state. They were able to include the state song, pictures of
famous people, graphs and charts of the products produced by that state and
much, much more. Did children keep these reports? You bet they
did and I would be willing to bet they remember much more of their research
as well!
