Standards based Report Card

|
The Travis
Unified School District has been working during the past year to revise
the elementary Standards-Based Report Card to make it more parent/guardian,
student and teacher friendly. With input from parents/guardians, principals
and teachers, the Report Card Committee has made several changes that
we hope you will find helpful. We have simplified the language and
combined some of the categories to make it more readable.
We have also added letter grades to the 4th, 5th and
6th grade report cards to help with the transition to middle school.
We will maintain
the reporting of progress on the key standards for each grade. The new
letter grades in the core subjects of Language Arts, Math, Science and
Social Science will represent your student’s overall grade for
that subject. The overall grade will represent your child’s work
in the following areas: tests, homework, class work and participation.
The letter grades will be A for excellent, B for good and C for satisfactory.
We will not use the D or F grade, as the traditional terms of unsatisfactory
and failure are not applicable to a Standards Based system, (the student
either met the standard or has not yet met the standard). Students who
have not yet met the standard at the end of the grading period will receive
an “I” for intervention. This will signify that the teacher,
parents/guardians and student need to identify the interventions necessary
to help the student meet the standard. The discussion will include how
best to support the student at school and home to get the student back
on the track to success.
If you have ideas, suggestions or questions regarding
our revised report card, please share them with us. We are interested
in doing whatever
we can to improve our communication with parents regarding your child’s
progress.
