This department coordinates English Learner Services. This includes testing for ELL’s (English Language Learners) as well as coordination of specialized English Learner instruction.
The CELDT (California English Language Development Test) is used to determine the English Language Proficiency of students whose primary language is not English. Students in Kindergarten and First Grade are assessed in Listening and Speaking. Students in grades 2-12 are assessed in Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.
If a student is determined to be an English Language Learner, he or she will be given specialized instruction in order to help them achieve proficiency in the English Language. Our main curriculum for ELD (English Language Development) is that of Hampton Brown’s Avenue’s and High Point Programs. Their websites are www.hbavenues.com and www.hampton-brown.com.
