View the latest information on the landmark Superior Court case to provide all students equal access to instructional materials, safe schools, and quality teachers.

The Eliezer Williams, et al., vs. State of California, et al. (Williams) case was filed as a class action in 2000 in San Francisco County Superior Court. The plaintiffs include nearly 100 San Francisco County students, who filed suit against the State of California and state education agencies, including the California Department of Education (CDE). The basis of the lawsuit was that the agencies failed to provide public school students with equal access to instructional materials, safe and decent school facilities, and qualified teachers.

The court ordered that CDE make available information regarding the provisions of the settlement and the process by which students on whose behalf the lawsuit was filed may file objections to the settlement. You will find the court documents posted and available for downloading on CDE’s Web site, http://www.cde.ca.gov/eo/ce/wc/index.asp.

2002-03 California Physical Fitness Report Summary of Results
From the California Department of Education

Test shows kids need more exercise From the Daily Republic
FAIRFIELD -- The results of a state physical fitness test is causing some educators to call for more young people to exercise. The Fitnessgram is the state's way to test how physically fit students in the fifth, seventh and ninth grades are. It measures physical ability in six major areas - aerobic capacity, percentage of body fat to body mass, abdominal strength, upper body strength, trunk strength and flexibility.

In the Travis Unified School District, 47 percent of fifth-graders, 30.2 percent of seventh-graders and 36.2 percent of ninth-graders met the standards of all six fitness areas, according to state figures. The numbers look pretty good but there's always room for improvement, said Kathleen Bond, TUSD assistant superintendent for student learning and educational services. November 7 2003

A Message to Our Community from Travis Unified Superintendent, Jacki Cottingim.
As everyone is aware, we are facing some difficult financial times in California and throughout much of the nation. The Statewide budget woes, however, have hit schools especially hard this year. We are being asked to cut major funds from our current year budget! The Governor has informed us that he will not send us a large portion of the funds he promised to us for the 2002-03 school year that we are halfway through. We are in the process of taking immediate steps to reduce our expenses in order to avoid a major crisis next year! [Read the full message] January 29, 2003

Virus Warning!
The new virus called Nimda, .is one of the most virulent virus Internet users have seen.
It will come to you either through e-mail as an attachment named "readme.exe" or you may also get it from infected web sites. The web sites infected with Nimda virus will prompt you to download the virus laden file with some catchy phrase. In either case, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE use precaution and your best judgment in opening any attachment or downloaded files from the Internet. I have shared with you some tips when HomePage virus hit us and they are available on the Information Services web site.
So far the anti-virus software we have on our important servers has protected us, but we cannot rely on that alone. I need your cooperation in this matter and I thank you all.
