What is Operation Hero
Created at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in 1995, Operation Hero targets children from 6 - 12 years of age who are experiencing temporary difficulty in school, both socially and academically. Often these difficulties are caused by frequent moves and family disruption due to deployments.  Referred by teachers, parents or school officials, the semester-long program provides after-school tutoring and mentoring assistance in a small group with certified teachers.

GATE and Accelerated Learner Program
This new program's goal is to provide a learning environment and curriculum that meets the learning needs of qualified gifted and talented students and high achieving students who do not qualify for the G.A.T.E. program services.

Accelerated Reader and Accelerated Math

All educators agree that practice is essential to the success of every reading, math and writing curriculum but research shows that practice must be personalized and coupled with instruction to be effective.  Renaissance Learning Assessments (AR and AM) make daily and periodic assessment practical and personalized practice possible.  Daily practice monitoring includes a wide variety of assessments designed to provide feedback regarding either student completion of important tasks, such as student reading or math problem-solving, or feedback regarding student comprehension of direct instruction.  Assessments with AR and AM provide the majority of the information necessary to inform instruction and guide practice to improve student performance.

Special Education Programs

Scandia Elementary School currently offers a Speech and Language program as well as a Resource program.  These programs provide extra support for qualifying students. Travis Unified as a district offers a wide variety of special education programs all based on student needs.  If your child has a current special education plan (IEP) please be sure to let the school know during registration.
