DNA/ Cell Project

This project consists of making a DNA model and writing a typed report on a specific type of cell along with a 2 minute class presentation about your cell Both A and B must be completed for credit.

  • Make a Three-Dimensional Model of DNA.   Your model should be similar to a twisted ladder (see page 154 of book).   All models must have a hook and be light enough to hang.   Do not use a kit or you will get NO credit. The point is for you to experiment and build your own model. The length of the model should not exceed 60 cm, long and 10 cm wide.   Glue or tie on your model the following:
  • Your NAME
  • Your Science Class Period and Teacher’s Name

Include on your model a key (labeled and/or color coded): D- deoxyribose, P-phosphate, A-adenine, T-thymine, C-cytosine, G-guanine, Hydrogen bond

YOU MUST NOT MAKE YOUR MODEL OUT OF FOOD PRODUCTS THAT WILL DRAW ANTS.    However, use of recycled material is admired!!

  • Write a typed 5 page essay about DNA and a specific type of cell you are assigned. You must do a 2 minute oral presentation to the class about your cell. The report MUST be in your OWN WORDS. Report should be typed 12 font, double spaced, and 1 inch margins.

Include the following in your report:

  • Title page – Including:   (page 1)
  • Name of Your Report (Make up a name that has something to do with the cell you choose)
  • Labeled drawing of your cell (hand-drawn)
  • Your Name, Date, Period
  • Teacher’s Name
  • Table of Contents (page 2)
  • A description of DNA (molecular structure), where is it found, what it does and how it is important. Include information about Franklin, Watson and Crick. (1/2 to one page, page 3)
  • Information about your cell: where it is, what it does, how it is important etc. (page 3, 4…)
  • Bibliography/Sources [listed alphabetically by Author, Year published, Title (book, article, or web address), Publisher/Journal/Magazine/Web page, # of pages for books or page #’s for articles]. (page 5)

Both parts A&B are required and must be turned in together.
