7th grade Science Curriculum 2010/11

Our 7th grade Science program is in line with the California Science Standards using the Prentice Hall Science program as a guide. Below is our plan for the year, but the dates may be subject to change. As you will see below we are trying to incorporate some of the California Health standards as well.

QUARTER 1
Cell Biology Ch 3, 4
Collecting and identifying insects, (insect collection with partner)
Invertebrate brochure (by yourself…no partner) due Sept 7 (mini report)
Grasshopper Dissection
Quarter Project: Health: Goal setting foldable due Oct 11
Notebook due Oct 15th
This quarter your son/daughters grade will be based on their knowledge of California Science Standards: 1a,b,c,d,e,f; 2 e; 5a,; 7a,c,d,e

QUARTER 2
Genetics Ch-5, 6
Quarter Project: DNA Model & Cell Report- Due Jan 5th (oral presentation required)
Notebook due Jan 7th
This quarter your son/daughters grade will be based on their knowledge of California Science Standards: 2a,b,c,d; 5f; 7a,b,c,d,e

QUARTER 3
Evolution & Classification Ch-5, 6
Dissections: earthworm, squid
Quarter Project: Science Experiment & Report- Due March 9th (oral presentation required)
Notebook due March 11th

QUARTER 4
Light Ch-2
Body Systems Ch-13, 14, 15
Body Systems Foldable (short mostly in class mini project)
Health: infectious and non infectious diseases
Human Reproduction Ch-16
PSI (Postponing Sexual Involvement) Parent preview May 2, 2010 in Room A-5 @ 3:10-4:00 pm.
Quarter Project: Develop a Science Game using knowledge from this year- Due May18th
Notebook due May 27th

NOTE: Quarter projects are worth 20% and notebooks are worth 20% of the quarter grade. They are weighted heavily to help improve each student’s grade and to encourage good organization skills.
