Book Reports

Students present book reports to the class to share books with the class and to help me assess the student’s progress in speaking and reading. Here are some guidelines and suggestions for book reports. If there are any questions about a book or report, contact me first so we can make sure that it will be appropriate.

Two book reports are required for each trimester. Books for reports should be at least 100 pages long, and only one book from any one author or series is allowed in each trimester. They will take the Accelerated Reader quiz for the book. The reports may be presented to the class in many different forms. It may involve reading to the class, demonstrations, posters or activities. Modifications may be made for good reasons but must be approved by the teacher beforehand.

The report should include at least the following information.

• 10 pts - Take the Accelerated Reader quiz for the book.
• 10 pts - Read a portion of the book to the class (1 or 2 pages, no bad words), to give the class an idea of the author’s writing style and the book’s reading level.
• 10 pts - Give the basic plot.
• 10 pts - Tell about your favorite part and why it’s your favorite part.
• 10 pts - Tell about your favorite character and why it’s your favorite character.
• 10 pts - Tell whether you liked the book and why.
• 10 pts - Tell us whether you would recommend the book and to whom.
• 10 pts - Write a multiple-choice question for the class from your report and give the answer.
• 50 pts - Presentation (voice, volume, eye contact, inflection and other props)
• 10 pts - Bibliography with: Author’s last name, Author’s first name, Title of book, Illustrator (if there is one), Publisher, place published, published date, copyright date, and number of pages.
