Accelerated Reading Program Fund-raisers

We will be holding a fund-raiser at a local restaurant the third Wednesday of each month that we are on track, to benefit the Accelerated Reading (AR) Program.

Accelerated Reading is a program that is used to support literacy here at Cambridge Elementary. Students read literature books available from the library and in many classrooms. The choices are geared to the student’s individual reading level as identified by the teacher and the quizzes. After reading a selection, they can then go to a computer and access a quiz that will check the student’s level of reading comprehension and understanding of the content. If the student does well on the quiz, they earn points and can then advance to the next level. Points can be redeemed for books from the prize cart at the end of each trimester.

The program is flourishing thanks to a huge effort from Mrs. Carla Gardner and Ms. Catherine Bowers who have coordinated monthly fund-raisers with local restaurants. The money raised at these events is used to purchase new books and quizzes for our students to use and books for the prize cart to reward their efforts. Our school PTA also provides generous support for this program. To view a list of AR Quizzes that we have available click on the Accelerated Reader icon on our home page. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact our program coordinator Carla Gardner daytime cell (707) 592-0320 or evening home (707) 446-0358.
