Science Camp

A home-made comet!

Fifth grade students from Cambridge are preparing for space. Well, at least simulated space. In January, the students will be traveling to Sacramento's Discovery Museum Challenger Learning Center to experience a simulated mission to launch a probe to collect samples from an orbiting comet. In the process they are exposed to the principles of teamwork, responsible decision making and communication.

There are many experiments and activities preparing the students for the mission.

The students discussed the composition of comets and they actually made one out of dry ice, dirt, syrup and other ingredients in one of the activities.

Students learned how to take their pulse and learned how exercise effects their heartbeat and blood pressure.

Students sampled several household chemicals and foods to find out more about acids and bases.
