Mr. Pennington's class went to the Suisun Marsh
November 6, 2009

Mr. Pennington's class went to the Suisun Marsh. The class first had a review about the Watershed/Wetlands of the marsh followed by Marine Debris.
The kids then rotated through three stations.

First was the water station with the Environment Education Program Manager, Marianne Butler. The students tested the oxygen, temperature, turbidity, salinity, phosphate and pH of the creek water.

Second was the soil station conducted by educator Martha Rocha of Suisun RCD. They took samples of the soil uphill and downhill. The students described the color, texture and smell of the soil.

Last was the plant station with Executive Director of Solano RCD, Chris Rose. He helped the kids identify different species of native and non-native plants at the marsh. Afterwards, the class went on a nature walk up to a spot that overlooks the marsh and did a creative writing assignment. They wrote poems about what the Suisun Marsh means to them.
