Playground Demolition
April 24, 2004

The playground equipment at Cambridge Elementary was closed after an inspection by the insurance company determined that certain features of it were unsafe because of changes in standards since the time it was installed. A representative of the manufacturer and district office personnel reviewed the concerns and the cost of repair and found that it would cost more to repair the equipment than replace it.

Travis Unified School District Maintenance and Grounds Department employees were brought in on Saturday, April 24 to tear down the playground in preparation for a new one. Special care was taken to preserve parts that can be used to repair equipment located on other campuses in the district. These parts from our playground will help to keep others in good condition for students to enjoy while minimizing the cost of maintaining them. We appreciate the efforts of everyone involved in this project.
