Thanks to the generosity of Señora Smith and the students in her Spanish 1 class at Vanden High School, our Spanish Immersion class has 90 bilingual books for their classroom.
The final literacy project for Señora
Smith's three Spanish 1 classes was to create a bilingual book for children
choosing from 8 topics they learned in Spanish 1. The topics were:
¿Cómo es ? How do you look?
¿Cómo esta.? How do you feel?
¿Qué color Es? What color is it?
¿Qué tiempo hace? What's the weather?
¿Dónde estás? Where are you?
¿Adónde vas? Where are you going?
¿Qué forma es? What shape is it?
¿Qué quieres comer? What do you want to eat?
The books are bilingual, illustrated, and gifts
of literacy. Each student included a biography in Spanish and a picture at
the end of their creation. The authors reinforced their literacy while encouraging
children to pursue bilingualism. As their Instructor, Señora Smith
watched each student create a book worth sharing. Each of the 90 books are
as special and individual as their authors.
The completed book were delivered to the Spanish Immersion class at Cambridge.
The children delighted in reading the books to each other and to Mr. Morales
and Señora Smith. Thank you!
