Comité de Padres Unidos (C.P.U.)Committee of United Parents would like to extend their gratitude to our ever-responsive P.T.A. for their support in bringing about "Fiesta Night."Through the cooperation and support of the Cambridge P.T.A. the Committee of United ParentsComité de Padres Unidos (CPU) presented the Travis community "Fiesta Night." This event filled the senses with the aromas of homemade dishes, colorful attire and rhythmic sounds of folkloric music from south of the border.
Eager participants waited patiently to taste the home made meal of the night: a traditional Mexican dish consisting of a beef tostada or a pork or chicken tamale served with rice, beans and a salad. In addition to the sense of taste, the senses of sight and hearing were treated to an array of color and sounds from the energetic dance troupe "Danzantes del Alma" (Soul Dancers) from U.C. Davis. The representatives from this twenty-five year old group presented the audience with a variety of regional Mexican folkloric dances and music.
The evening was a perfect platform for people to meet and old
acquaintances to "catch-up" on the latest. It also gave the community
an opportunity to speak directly to the Governing Board, as all Board members
were present to show their support. We are grateful to Mrs. Mary Ann Martinez,
Board President; Mrs. Denise Boyles, Board Vice-President; Mrs. Amy Swanson,
Board Clerk; Mr. Harry Axhelm, Board Member; Mr. Ed Sanderson, Board Member
and Dr. Jacki Cottingim, District Superintendent and Governing Board Clerk for
their presence. We would also like to acknowledge the presence of Mrs. Mary
Flurey, former Board member, and her family for joining us. Her presence showed
us her commitment to the present and future goals of the school and district.
Thank you Mrs. Flurey for joining us with your family.
Should this event repeat itself, as it most likely will due to the positive
comments and requests for an encore, we promise to implement those things that
can only make it better. We promise the food lines will move faster!
Again, thank you for your support and we hope to see you again next year.
Please do join us every first Tuesday of the month for our monthly
meeting at 6:00 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room.
Respectfully,
CPU
