Cambridge Students Reap Rewards for Reading

Cambridge students won the Governor's Reading Award for 1999-2000 by reading 1,320,342 pages from October 15 to April 15. We were one of two schools in Solano County to win the $5,000award. Now, we are enjoying the rewards of reading by having new books in our library.

There are new books ordered for each grade level. Look inside the books at the library to see if you have one with a special bookplate noting that the book was purchased with the $5,000 award. Some books are dedicated to Carmen Ryan for all her help counting pages and tallying classroom pages. Other books are dedicated to all the students of Cambridge who logged over 1 million pages on reading records.

In addition to purchasing books for the library, we are spending funds to have special visits from published authors. In the spring we will have an assembly for K-3 students to meet author/illustrator Denys Cazet. We have some of his books in our library now. You might want to read several of them before his visit. You will enjoy them. For the upper grades we will have an assembly to meet and hear author Candy Dawson-Boyd. We have several of her books in our library collection.

Keep reading and recording those pages in your reading logs. We are working to win the award again for the 2000-2001 school year. We can do it!!
