Author and illustrator Denys Cazet

Local author and illustrator Denys Cazet enthralled listeners today at Cambridge Elementary School with his wit and comical drawings of alligators (from his books Sunday and Saturday) and pigs. He read poems from his book Night Lights. He recalled his day as an elementary student, hiding his drawings behind a large spelling book--his teachers did not want him to draw during class.

Denys lives with his family in the hills of Pope Valley. He has been drawing since he wore diapers(his mother told him this). He has written over one hundred books, and forty have been published. Denys encouraged listeners --- if you like to draw, you can make a living as an illustrator. Many of his ideas for his stories come from the people and incidents around him.

Denys personally signed 138 books for students and teachers at Cambridge. Thank you Denys Cazet for reminding us that reading and drawing are fun! The next Minnie and Moo book to be published is Minnie and Moo Meet Frankenswine!

Next time you visit your library, ask for a book by Denys Cazet.
