CAMBRIDGE WINS GOVERNOR'S READING AWARD

We are pleased to announce that Cambridge has been awarded the Governor's Reading Award for the second consecutive year. The Governor believes that reading every day will help students succeed in school and in life. Students at Cambridge read 1,178,83 pages from October 1 to April 1 to win $5,000. A committee composed of teachers, school staff, site council members, program coordinators, students and parents will determine how the grant will best benefit Cambridge and its students. Last year's money was spent on books for the library and classrooms, an author visit from Denys Cazet, and materials for our Accelerated Reading Program.

Thanks to all students, parents, and teachers for helping us win this award. Special thanks to Carmen Ryan, Denise diGregorrio, and Kimberly Wright. Two other schools in Solano County also won the award: Scandia School in Travis District and Joseph Wardlow Elementary in Vallejo City Unified. In the second year of this program students from participating schools read a total of 1,081,276,410 pages during the 6-month timeframe. This is an increase of 391,811,123 pages over the previous year. Don't forget keep reading this summer! Congratulations!
