The purpose of the Summer School Program is to continue to emphasize the development of basic skills in Reading .

We hope this summer will be an enjoyable learning experience for every student, which will transfer over into the 2008-2009 school year.

June 16 - July 18 Summer School (June 30 – July 4 Vacation)
Student Hours: 8:00 am – 12:00 pm
* Students should not be on school grounds before 7:50 am .

FIRST DAY OF SUMMER SCHOOL

Students should line up by grade level on the playground area at the poles across the back of A-wing and B-wing.  Signs will be posted on the poles which will indicate where each grade level should line up for the first day.  Beginning with the second day students will line up by teacher name/grade level.  Parents: Please park in designated parking spaces on Upson Street .  There are parking spaces on Upson Street as well as a parking lot on the left side of Upson Street .  Please note that Upson is a two-way street at the intersection with Cannon Drive near the CDC.  Upson becomes a one-way street after you pass the CDC.  Please do not stop or park in the bus loading area on Upson.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

We are asking students to bring pencils, crayons, erasers, colored pencils, scissors, glue sticks, rulers, etc. in a pencil box for Summer School.  Any school supplies taken home on June 6th can be used for Summer School.

WATER BOTTLES

Students are encouraged to bring their own plastic water bottles. No glass is allowed.

RECESS/BRUNCH:
9:50 – 10:10 am

Brunch will be sold daily.  Please refer to the enclosed menu.  Students may bring a lunch from home. Lunch balance from the previous school year must be paid in full by the start of Summer School. Students will be allowed to charge one time only.  Parents are encouraged to check Mealtime balances before the start of Summer School and add money to your child’s account as needed.  Free and reduced lunches still apply for qualified students.  Parents of Kindergarten students: We have included your child’s password for Mealtime.  You can put money into your child’s account before the start of Summer School via the Travis USD web page.  If you have any questions about this procedure, please contact Irene Reynolds at 437-8271. Summer School Brunch Menu is now available.

DRESS CODE

Summer School does not have a formal dress code. However, we have recommendations for dress that in our experience, improve safety for children on the playground and at school. School attire should be appropriate, modest, and in good taste. Short-shorts and halter tops are not considered proper dress for school. Thong sandals and shoes with built in skates are not allowed because they present a safety hazard.

  BASIC SCHOOL and CLASSROOM RULES

Be safe.

Be respectful.

Be responsible.

STUDENT MEDICATION

Students will not be allowed to self-administer medication at school, except in special circumstances.  All medication must be taken to the office and must be accompanied by a medication form filled out by the doctor with full instructions including name, medication, dosage, time and route.  Medications include prescription medications and over-the-counter medications including but not limited to Tylenol, cough drops, cough syrup, vitamins, etc.  The school health care specialist, secretary or principal will then administer the medication at the prescribed time and in the prescribed dosage.  MEDICATION FORMS are available in each school office.  Medications must be picked up before the end of Summer School or they will be discarded. Each prescription must have its own medication form. Prescription label with instructions must also accompany the medication, except for over the counter medication (medication authorization form will suffice). Medication authorization from the 07/08 school year will be okay for summer school.

ABSENCE/TARDY POLICY:

There are no excused absences during Summer School.  Time is short, and student attendance is critical to their success.  Students will be dismissed from Summer School if they miss more than two days of instruction or have excessive tardies.
