Emergency Response Team Training

Beginning on January 16th, 2007, forty-two Travis Unified School District staff members began training with the Vacaville Police Department on emergency response. Each site and key departments in the District Office sent personnel to be trained.

The Vacaville Police and Fire Departments provided a six week session that covered basic disaster response training such as fire safety, flood safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. The training culminated on February 20th, 2007 with a simulated disaster drill held at North Campus on Vanden Road. Trainees demonstrated their skills in medical triage, utilities shut-offs, removing a victim using cribbing techniques, and light search and rescue.

This year’s trainees will be able to take the lead should a disaster strike on any of the Travis Unified School Districts’ campuses. In addition, trainees who are Vacaville residents are now certified to be emergency responders for Vacaville should a community disaster occur.
